The Narratives Library has now been online for a year and has grown from an initial 600 hits per month to now an average of over 40,000 hits and over 30,000 files read each month!

We look forward to expanding the content and genres and the reach of the library with a Narratives National – a half hour national broadcast  every week sometime in the future.

Stay tuned and keep dropping by to read more and more great story extracts, straight from the authors’ mouth!

New to Narratives Library

I have been all over this month collecting more reads for the Narratives Library. First down to Melbourne for the Australian Romance Readers Convention where I recorded over 20 romance authors with their themes ranging from crime, to science fiction and paranormal to regency and steampunk!

First up in this series this week are:

Michelle Somers with crime romance’ Murder most unusual”

Michelle picks up tips on crime solving from  police contacts and weaves them into hot romances and thrillers.

I also recorded  Lesley Truffle reading from ‘The Scandalous life of Sacher Torte’. Her other ripping yarn ‘Hotel du Barry’ will be uploaded soon.

Amy Andrews is another romance/crime writer. Listen to her read ‘Limbo; ( It’s hard to know whether to list these under’crime’ or under ‘Romance and relationships’!

And finally one for little kids who feel ‘different’ for whatever reason from their peers.

Carole Lander writes happy but realistic stories to help these kids cope in ‘Wheels of fire’ and Basketball tree.

Last week I also attended the Somerset Celebration of Literature which is the largest invited gathering of Young Adult Writers held in Australia.

There will be some lovely reads posted soon from that event also.

Termites and Toddlers

This week I have added a fascinating book from Pat Lowe from Backroom Press about our little friends the Termites – stop spraying them and start admiring them!

And Scott Rheuben believes stories for children should have an underlying moral so he wrote Roses are not Red to increase their awareness of the world around them. You can hear a short interview with Scott on Arts Canvass.

Friends of the Byron Library

Today I was guest of honour at the Byron friends of the Library lunch.
In addition to partaking of the lovely lunch I was able to tell them all about the Narratives Project.
Friend’s president Beryl Main has some exciting ideas which hopefully we can put into action next year to encourage lots more people to listen to the readings on the Narratives site.
I hope everyone at the lunch went home and looked up the site and found lots of listening pleasure to be had there!

Sarah de Vos cover

Dominic Smith – The Last Painting of Sarah De Vos.

The connecting thread in this book   is a beautiful painting  – first we hear Dominic read  a description of this work and its provenance, and then we hear from the contemporary owner of the  work who has discovered it was removed and a fake substituted without his knowing.

The Wild Girl

Kate Forsyth – The Wild Girl

The  Wild Girl  is based on the true story of the Brother’s Grimm and their relationship with a young woman called   Dortchen Wild. Dortchen and Wilhelm Grimm are in love but have been prevented from marriage by her father. This is an extra long read of 11 minutes as Kate wanted to give us a whole chapter.
